POGGENPOHL & COSENTINO HOST IIDF MEETING

On June 12th, Silestone by Cosentino (www.silestoneusa.com), a family-owned company and world leader in natural quartz surfacing, hosted the Independent Interior Designers’ Forum (IIDF) monthly meeting at the downtown Poggenpohl showroom. The sleek space was the perfect setting for an intimate conversation with the group who discussed a bevy of industry topics, including color options, pricing, distribution, and how to best work with fabricators. IIDF was founded to create discussion, share mutually beneficial information, strengthen business skills, and generally further the aims of independent interior designers based in New York City. Co-founder of IIDF Kent Brasloff (Ask Kent and Co.), welcomed the group and introduced Lorenzo Marquez, VP of Marketing for Cosentino North America who shared an overview of the Silestone brand and its expansion plans in the U.S. market. Attendees enjoyed a delicious spread of Mediterranean food and wine while networking with Cosentino and Poggenpohl team members, before settling into their “hot topic” discussion for the meeting.

The new Washington, D.C.- area center, designed by Isabel Martinez-Cosentino, aims to enhance both the trade and consumer experience and continues Cosentino’s mission to expand its presence in the U.S. market over the next year.

The May 17 program included remarks from Eduardo Cosentino, CEO of Cosentino North America, and Otis Mehlberg, General Manager for the Washington, D.C.-area Cosentino Center. A flamenco performance entertained attendees, while others participated in an interactive game, where they visited five stops throughout the facility to learn about Cosentino’s vast product offerings and earn a prize.

Now, all visitors to the Washington, D.C.-area center will be able to explore and engage in the kitchen and bath experience — from material and color selection to specification and fabrication. The Cosentino Center showcases the full portfolio of Cosentino brands, including: Silestone Natural Quartz; ECO by Cosentino recycled surfaces; SenSa® Granite; Scalea Natural Stone; Marlique™ Marble; MURO™ Mosaics; and the Prexury™ Collection, a semi-precious stone line handmade by expert craftsmen.

Silestone (www.silestoneusa.com), the world leader in quartz surfacing, announces the launch of its new iPad and iPhone application for design professionals. The Silestone app was created to be an essential design resource for architects and designers offering an interactive “toolbox” of over 75 colors, inspiration galleries, practical advice, and an easily accessible dealer locator function.

“With design professionals utilizing technology more and more in their business and creative process, the new iPad and iPhone app is a natural evolution for the Silestone brand,” said Lorenzo Marquez, VP of Marketing for Cosentino North America.  “We are providing designers with interactive tools to help make their job easier and more efficient, while at the same time inspiring them with new color and design ideas.”

Among the many unique features the app will offer to enable architects and designers to make the most of the tablet and mobile experience will be photo galleries of exceptional kitchen and bath projects, and the full range of more than 75 Silestone colors arranged by both hue and series.  An excellent new tool for the trade is a convenient calculator to help estimate area square footage and pricing for projects.  Once designers are ready to make product selections, the app’s helpful “store locator” feature provides a location-based list of local showrooms, dealers, and retailers.

Whether designing on-the-go or presenting concepts, the app allows designers the opportunity to assist clients by showcasing colors and ideas in a more sophisticated and visual way than simply showing a traditional sample tile.

COSENTINO COLLABORATES WITH SWEDISH DESIGN STUDIO FORM US WITH LOVE

Stockholm, Sweden

Cosentino Group, a world leader in the production and distribution of quartz surfaces and natural stone, has collaborated with the internationally acclaimed Swedish design studio, Form Us With Love to create stunning vases made from Silestone, Cosentino’s line of natural quartz. The conceptual project entitled “Silestone Slab Vases” was unveiled last week as part of the “Form Us With Friends” exhibition at the Swedish Museum of Architecture during Stockholm Design Week.

The beautifully crafted contemporary vases consist of cylindrical Silestone rings slipped over a metal bracket measuring nearly 16 inches tall, creating a watertight vessel. The size, color and finish of the rings vary, and are cut so that the shape of the vase transforms with each assembly. The innovative design breaks away from the typical Silestone slab and explores the material in an entirely new dimension.

“Silestone is manmade but from natural materials, and that’s what fascinated us,” said Jonas Pettersson, co-founder of Form Us With Love. “They take something from nature, add resin and color, and make it better. That’s what appealed to us as industrial designers.”

The collaboration between Silestone and Form Us With Love first began at the Stockholm Design Week last year. Form Us With Love then developed the vase concept in their Stockholm studio and visited the Cosentino headquarters in Almeria, Spain to begin the fabrication process, which utilized water jet stone-cutting machinery.  Following the 2012 Stockholm Design Week, the conceptual vases will remain on display at Cosentino’s headquarters.

Form Us With Love showcases a fresh new perspective for Silestone with this concept, reminding us that design possibilities are endless,” said Vanessa Feo, Communication Manager for Cosentino Group in Europe. “They are a fantastically skilled design trio.”
